Candidates for Certification in Weight or Stress Management complete a three-step process to gain the knowledge and skills necessary for lifestyle counseling in weight and/or stress management. Below is a brief description of this three-step process:

Step 1—Knowledge and Skills. Enroll in the self-study Exam Preparation Course (EPC) of the LifeStyle Counselor Certification Program™ by contacting The LEARN® Institute for LifeStyle Management. The LEARN Institute is one of the training program providers for the AALC.

Step 2—Take the LifeStyle Counselor Certification Examination. After completing step 1, The LEARN Institute will present Candidates for Certification to the AALC for examination. Exams are sent by the AALC to the Candidate. Candidates have up to two weeks to take the examination in the convenience of their homes or offices. A score of 80 percent or greater is required to pass the examination. All passing Candidates become Provisional Members in the AALC.

Step 3—Complete the Applied Practicum Training Course. All Provisional Members in the AALC are eligible to complete the final step in becoming a Fellow Member in the AALC. This step requires Provisional Members to attend a two-day, hands-on practicum training course designed for CLCs to further apply their knowledge and improve their proficiency of lifestyle counseling skills. Provisional Members can contact The LEARN Institute to enroll in this final step in the certification process.
